Members Of The House Small Business Committee Call For Bipartisanship, Approval Of PPP 2

While the initial CARES Act – and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), specifically – helped to keep small businesses solvent through the early stage of the pandemic, many companies that received funding have exhausted those resources and are in danger of closing. More than $521 billion in “forgivable loans” has been distributed to more than 5.1 million small and mid-sized companies from Alaska to Maine through PPP.

However, many companies still await confirmation that these loans have been forgiven. As a result, they are unlike to apply for any more funding until they have confirmed that they are no longer “on the hook” to repay their first cash infusion from the government.

In an online forum discussing how best to help struggling small businesses this week, U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D, NY-13) and U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern (R, OK-01) stressed bipartisanship and provided insights into Congressional efforts to support business

White House hints at new airline bailout; Pelosi, experts call new CDC guidelines ‘scary and dangerous’

The White House may provide relief to airline workers to keep them employed if Congress fails to reach agreement on a package for them, President Donald Trump’s chief of staff said Wednesday.

And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its COVID-19 testing guidelines and now says people without symptoms “do not necessarily need a test” – even if they’ve been exposed to COVID-19.

The move comes a week after the CDC updated travel guidelines that no longer mandate a 14-day quarantine for anyone who’s traveled outside of their state or the country. The revisions to CDC guidelines have been met with concern by medical experts, who caution that less testing may lead to more cases and hinder contact tracing efforts.

Should I Call The Police To Report Identity Theft?

If your identity is stolen, the police aren’t well equipped to investigate it. This is part of a HuffPost series looking at alternatives to policing. You can read the other pieces here.

That instinct isn’t necessarily wrong, but it might not get you the results you want. Identity theft is most certainly a crime, but unlike a burglary or physical assault, it’s much tougher
