Next to a bottle of hand sanitizer, on a table at an entrance to Brentwood’s Diesel bookstore, is a message to customers describing an existential crisis induced by a pandemic. It says, in essence: We need your help.

“We have tried to weather this storm, with creative reinvention, hard work, and perseverance, as we always have,” reads the note from Diesel owners Alison Reid and John Evans. “We’ve managed to keep our booksellers afloat financially and with the necessary health care. But at this point, our stores are foundering.

“… So we are asking for your support to restore us to a sustainable level, to make it through this taxing time… We have resisted this appeal to our wider community, but now we are running

Is it safe to shop at thrift stores and online during COVID-19?

As we transition into fall, students are still looking for back-to-school clothing that is stylish and affordable, whether they are in a Zoom class online or in-person on campus. With trends changing daily, many people opt to buy and sell previously-loved clothing, shoes and accessories through online social commerce platforms like Poshmark.

When Canada entered lockdown in March, stores remained closed and shoppers weren’t able to head to their favourite thrift store to go through racks of sustainable clothing. This made many people take their thrift game online to change the way they purchased secondhand goods.

PhD student Kate Bauer says she still spends her free time re-selling her closet on Poshmark so she can remain up-to-date with the

How This Luxury Sneaker Consignment Business Is Opening New Stores to Pandemic Proof Its Business

Opening one new store in an economic tail spin is no mean feat. But Presentedby is opening three — and counting.

The premium sneaker consignment store launched its first new location in Paris’ luxury Le Bon Marché department store today. The second, in Mexico City, will follow next month and the third at Level Shoes in the Dubai Mall is set for October.

This morning, FN got exclusive early access to the new Art Deco-style Paris space before it opened to admit the queue of sneakerheads quickly forming outside.

The biggest ticket items here are Dior’s sellout Jordan collaboration, according to Riz Ahmed, co-founder of parent company Crep Protect. Following their release in late June, a limited run of 13,000 pairs at around $2,000 a pop, the resale price is approximately $10,000. (According to Ahmed, prices climb to $25,000 for smaller and larger sizes.)

How eBay and Etsy Became the Menswear World’s Most Important Stores

The best-dressed men appreciate clothes with character and a good story. And in the wee hours of the morning, many of them can be found doing the same thing: scouring eBay and Etsy. Sometimes it’s with a purpose, and sometimes not—that’s part of the fun. The boxes that mysteriously surface days or weeks later, depending on how far-flung the search terms went (often to Japan), arrive with a sweet sense of victory that new clothes rarely have. That safari jacket from the 1970s looks better than what you’ve seen lately because, in many ways, it is. These guys know that. They also know how to track these pieces down and make them look modern, which is the art of wearing anything vintage well.

Boxes with handwritten labels from Kansas to England show up at my house regularly, filled with what seems like the entire archive from Ralph Lauren’s Polo Country:

Hollywood & Highland is getting a big makeover that includes turning stores into offices

Hollywood & Highland, the splashy shopping center around the theater where the Academy Awards are held, will get a $100-million makeover intended to transform the well-known Hollywood Boulevard tourist attraction into a place locals want to visit, too.

Key to the center’s renovation will be turning as much as half of its space into offices for rent, a reflection of the challenging climate for retail stores and the emergence of Hollywood as one of the city’s top office markets, where Netflix, Viacom and other media giants have expanded in recent years.

The imposing structure next to the historic TCL Chinese Theatre stands at the heart of the Los Angeles tourism industry. Before the pandemic hit, more than 25 million visitors a year stopped by to gape at the theater’s footprints of movie stars and stroll the Walk of Fame celebrating generations of show biz luminaries. Celebrity impersonators and tour bus

Beyond Meat debuts new plant-based sandwich at Wawa stores

The plant-based food wars are heating up this summer. And Beyond Meat (BYND) looks poised to end July firing the last shot, for now.

Beyond Meat disclosed Friday that a new plant-based sandwich dubbed the Sizzli has gone live in 650 Wawa stores. The locations span Wawa’s dominant states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Another 220 Wawa stores in Florida will get the sandwich on August 10.

“Wawa is a cult favorite brand and we’re excited to partner with them to introduce several new breakfast options made with Beyond Breakfast Sausage. These new on-the-go options not only taste great, but will make plant-based meat more accessible to more consumers,” said Chuck Muth, chief growth officer at Beyond Meat.

Beyond Meat has focused extensively on making its brand more accessible to consumers this summer. Besides the Wawa deal, the company launched value packs at retailers such

  • On May 20, Amazon launched “Crucible,” a major new video game that was in development for over five years.

  • One week later, the game completely dropped off the charts. One month later, and Amazon outright pulled the game from availability and put it back into “closed beta” — a term used in game development to signify a game isn’t complete.

  • “Crucible” is the latest attempt from Amazon to push into the lucrative video game industry, which it has repeatedly failed to achieve.

  • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

Did you know that Amazon, the biggest company in the world, launched a big-budget video game recently?

The game is called “Crucible,” and you’re forgiven if this is the first you’re hearing about it. Despite being free-to-play and available on the world’s largest gaming platform, Steam, “Crucible” has already come and gone from the
