Local bars and restaurants hope for good business while students are away

TUCSON (KVOA) – It’s the last week University of Arizona students will be on campus

TUCSON (KVOA) – It’s the last week University of Arizona students will be on campus for almost two months. As students transition to online learning and go back home, businesses told News 4 Tucson, some are worried about the economic impact.

“We are almost to our break,” University of Arizona President Robert Robbins said. “This week of November 23 we will continue with our in person instruction.”

After that week, Robbins said students will be heading home. Brittney Gregory, the Manager of Frog N Firkin on University Ave. said she is not too worried about the loss of business.

“Every Winter and every Summer, the students do leave us to it’s something we are a little prepared for,” Gregory said.

When the pandemic first hit Tucson, she said it wasn’t easy to get by, but Tucsonans helped make that impact a little less jarring.

“It definitely was not easy, Tucson really supported us and we worked really hard to stay open so we could give a great product to the community,” Gregory said.

Gregory told News 4 Tucson it’s nice getting back to what she loves.

“I’m just excited to see people sitting down enjoying great beet, enjoying great foot, enjoying great company,” Gregory said.

She also said she is happy to wait, but will be ready to serve everyone in January.
